This was one of the first full CG car spots done at Chimney. I developed a new technique for capturing reflections, by mounting a RED Epic inside the stand in car (an older model Beetle) and shooting straight up with a 180 degree Field of View Fisheye lens. It was timecode locked to the shooting camera, then the stand-in car was 3d tracked, the fisheye footage was unwrapped and undistorted and then re-projected by a dome light parented to the CG car. The result was very accurate reflection and due to the high dynamic range of Epic cameras, the diffuse lighting also worked well. It greatly sped up the light and rendering process. You can see some before and after videos below.

I was the previz artist, onset supervisor and 3d CG supervisor.
